For 2 years a group of women from La Veta, CO planned a trip to visit the Health Center in Namakkal, India. They knew about the work that Dr. Sam Samuels was doing to help mothers and children effected and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. After many months of fund-raising and immunizations, they left from Denver, CO on June 23, 2008. After spending a night in Chennai, India, we boarded a train for the 5 hour trip to Salem, India. Once there, a driver picked us up and drove us to Namakkal. We stayed at the Nala Hotel for the next week and a half and began to experience the rural life of India. After visiting with the families at the clinic, visiting the villages where thatch huts were the living quarters, and visiting the hospitals, we came home with many ideas on how to help Dr. Samuels.
